Today (5 November 2018) the VMworld 2018 Europe is held again in Barcelona, were it’s being held a quite some years now. And with success: this year there are 12000 attendees and it’s the year that VMware exist for 20 years.
Below I describe the keynote topics:
VMware embraces superpowers changing the way we live
The message which VMware is sending (in sence) is the following: Cloud, Mobility, Artifical Intelligence(AI)/Machine Learning (ML), Internet of Things (IoT) are todays superpowers which enables a dramatic change of how we are live today:
VMware is driving these superpowers changing the way we live.
AppDefense
Security is a huge cumbersome for today’s business, as the mitigate method we are using today is not working: a new approach is needed to accomplish security the right way.
Today’s security model is based on stopping unwanted traffic, instead of only allowing the permitted traffic.
AppDefense in combination with vSphere and NSX introduces Adaptive Micro-segmentation
As VMware is showing a full AppDefense demo during the keynote, states how VMware’s is taking their network security vision seriously.
VMware Cloud Foundation.
VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) 3.5 announcement supporting more use cases. VCF is a validated platform, including HCI (vSphere, VSAN, NSX) on validated hardware, allowing integration with public clouds.
Hybrid Cloud
VMware embraces the hybrid cloud and work closely with IBM Cloud.
- IBM is delivering a high available mission critical cloud (with 99,99% uptime).
- supporting VMs and Cloud Native App (Kubernetes) on VMware technology.
Side note: IBM is the company which have purchased Red Hat 2 week ago, hoping the this sale opens more opportunities for IBM.
Amazon Relation Database Services (RDS) on VMware announcement.
After the announcement of VMware on AWS (VMConAWS) a couple of years ago, the roles are now turned supporting AWS RDS Services on VMware. Allowing AWS services under the operational model/management experience provided by VMware vSphere.
AWS RDS Services is providing the following database-instances:
- MariaDB
- Microsoft SQL
- MySQL
- Oracle
- PostgreSQL
Announcement Cloud Health acquirement
VMware has acquired Cloud Health more enabling their hybrid cloud vision. Cloud Health enables:
- Cloud Visibility
- Cost Management
- Security Compliance
- Governance
- Container Optimization
Announcement Heptio acquicisition
VMware announcent the acquicisition of Heptio, delevering simplified Kebernetes-services.
Announcement VMware Cloud PKS
VMware’s biggest announcement is, VMware Cloud PKS. It’s delivering full VMWare PKS services on AWS, Google, Microsoft Azure and VMware cloud services.
